The Sharman Shootaround
Date: 1950s to 1960s
Prolific scorer Bill Sharman took aim at the basket during a game against the Syracuse Nationals. Outside of his accomplishments on the court, Sharman was responsible for a basketball tradition that continues to the present day: the shootaround. “I would just go to the gym and take a few shots, but I noticed that I suddenly felt fresher and more confident during games,” he recalled. “So I started doing it for all the games. And my performance was much better.”
