Doc Rivers got a call from President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge to lead the Celtics in a new direction less than a week after parting ways with the Orlando Magic. “He believed in me,” Rivers said in 2021. Rivers’ bobblehead came in only his second game as Celtics head coach on November 5, 2004. Despite early struggles, Rivers paid back Ainge’s faith with the team’s 17th NBA World Championship title in 2008.
