The First Playoff Victory
Led by Coach John “Honey” Russell, the Celtics played their second season in franchise history in 1947-48. The group won Boston’s first ever playoff game on March 31, 1948, an 81-77 victory over the Chicago Stags. Despite Ed Sadowski (No. 22, holding basketball) averaging 20 points per game, the Stags would take the series, 2-1.
