Tommy’s Impressive Rookie Season

Tommy Heinsohn made quite the impression on both the Celtics and the NBA during his rookie season. The young Heinsohn averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game during the 1956-57 regular season, which earned him a spot on the NBA All-Star Game roster, along with NBA Rookie of the Year honors. As a sign of things to come, Heinsohn capped off his rookie season by winning the first of eight NBA World Championship titles for “Mr. Celtic” as a player.
