They Needed a Rally
Date: April 25, 2004
Celtics history is filled with postseason success stories, but this isn’t one of them. Boston was bounced from the 2004 NBA Playoffs in a first-round sweep at the hands of the Indiana Pacers, the team they beat in the previous season’s playoffs. Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge bluntly said, “This year was not pretty. It was nothing like what I envisioned.” For his part, Mark Blount played well as he scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in Game 4, saying, “I just want the Boston fans to know that I’m going to work.” Fans responded to Blount’s workmanship by waving special rally towels like this one.
