The MVP Kisses the Crown
Date: May 14, 1981
Cedric Maxwell, the 1981 NBA Finals MVP, showed his appreciation during a moment with the Larry O’Brien Trophy. In the NBA Finals against the Houston Rockets, Maxwell led the Celtics with 17.7 points per game, finished second in rebounds with 9.5 per game and was third in assists with 2.8 per game. This role player clearly played a huge role in the series. Celtics Coach Bill Fitch said, “Here’s a guy who’s often overlooked, but in my opinion he’s an all-star.” Said Maxwell, “It’s a fine, fine compliment.”
