Bill Russell, Red Auerbach and Tommy Heinsohn celebrated among fans and reporters following a game in 1964. The trio won eight NBA World Championship titles together with Auerbach as head coach. (Russell and Auerbach won a ninth in the 1965-66 season after Heinsohn retired.) In 1966, Red chose to hand the keys to the NBA’s first dynasty to Russell. As a player-coach, Russell led Boston to two more NBA world championship titles in three seasons. Heinsohn followed up by taking over as head coach after Russell’s retirement in 1969.
