The First Title of Many
Date: April 13, 1957
This framed newspaper clipping displayed the Boston Globe’s coverage of the Celtics first NBA World Championship title over the St. Louis Hawks in 1957. Behind Bill Russell’s 32 rebounds and Tommy Heinsohn’s 37 points, the Celtics pulled off a 125-123 victory in double-overtime of Game 7. The intensity of the match led the Globe’s Jack Barry to write that the game “pushed the blood pressure of 13,909 rooters to the bursting point.”
