Take a Shot
Date: 1950s
In 1954, when the early NBA struggled to draw in fans, the league instituted a 24-second “shot clock” to increase offense in the game and prevent low-skill teams from winning by simply not shooting. This original shot clock used at Boston Garden is now on display at TD Garden. Coach Red Auerbach, already a fan of fast-paced basketball, noted that “the fans love it.”
