Red’s Own: Cigars and Titles

Red Auerbach posed for photos in 1996 with the two objects he was most associated with: a cigar and championship banners. Even in his mid-80s, Auerbach continued his daily cigar-smoking habit. Between himself and his doctors he had a daily limit, which he described as, “One officially and one unofficially. Officially it’s supposed to be two. Unofficially it’s three.”
