A Celtics practice under Red Auerbach could be intense. He banned water during practice on the theory that it would slow players down. According to John Havlicek, he heard stories that Bill Sharman and K.C. Jones practiced so hard “they nearly had bloodbaths.” As for Auerbach, he said, “I tried to make the practices interesting instead of drudgery.”
