Picture This: Fan Mecca

Not many professional basketball franchises provided fans a home quite like Boston Garden. Before the last regular season home game at the venerable Garden in 1995, the Celtics honored the tradition by starting a ceremonial “fast break,” beginning with team patriarch Red Auerbach and running through 22 players before Larry Bird hit one final layup. One fan at the last game said, “This is like Mecca. All you have to do is look up at the rafters and you know that all the great players in the history of basketball have been here.”
