Larry’s Last Warmup
Date: 1991-92 season
After missing the 1992 Eastern Conference First Round against the Indiana Pacers, Larry Bird returned to the Celtics for Game 4 of the semifinals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then got his first start since April in a win-or-go-home Game 6 at Boston Garden. Bird thrilled the crowd with 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Celtics blew out the Cavaliers, 122-91. Said Kevin McHale after the victory, “Larry has been the heart and soul of this basketball team.” Unfortunately, Game 7 in Cleveland was not as magical as the Cavs won, 122-104. Bird suited up in this road warmup that season, his last in a Celtics uniform.
