Larry’s Last Shot
Date: ca. 1979
Larry Bird is a Hoosier state basketball legend without peer. His days at Indiana State University elevated the Sycamores to a national powerhouse, as they made it all the way to the 1979 NCAA Championship game before falling to Magic Johnson and his Michigan State Spartans. Bird wore this warmup jacket during his college days. Later, the school decided to honor “Larry Legend” with a larger-than-life statue outside of its basketball arena. The sculptor, an Indiana State alum himself, made sure Bird’s 15-foot statue was taller than the 12-footer of Magic Johnson at Michigan State.
