Larry Bird Chooses His Weapon

Larry Bird’s black and white Converse shoe had an intimidating name: the Weapon. Throughout the 1980s, Converse marketed the sneakers with endorsements from NBA stars including Isiah Thomas, Kevin McHale and Bird’s rival from the Los Angeles Lakers, Magic Johnson. One Converse ad from the era tells the reader, “Bird and Magic have chosen their weapons. Now choose yours.”
