K.C. Goes To The Hoop
Date: 1962-63 season
Phil Jordon of the St. Louis Hawks could only watch as K.C. Jones completed a fast break layup. One reason the Celtics were so dominant in the 1960s was Red Auerbach’s up-tempo, improvisational style that turned defensive tips into fast breaks. Jones, who played behind Bob Cousy early in his career, described himself as “not a good shooter,” but he would “try to make up for it with ball handling and defense. I’d watch Cousy, trying to pick up the way he gets rid of the ball on the fast break, the way he dribbles when a man is pressing him, the way he controls the game.”
