Inside the Celtics Locker Room
Date: 1960s
John Havlicek chatted with teammates in the Celtics locker room sometime during the 1960s. When Havlicek arrived in Boston from Ohio State, the team’s locker room was one of his biggest shocks. Unlike today’s NBA, the locker rooms in the 1960s were more bare bones. “I thought it would be open and spacious; what I saw was a dungeon,” Havlicek said. “There were no lockers, just hooks and nails in the wall where you hang your clothes above a long bench, which you sat on and put your shoes under.”
