Going Green in the NBA Playoffs
Along with his hustle and defensive skills, Marcus Smart garnered attention during the 2022 NBA Playoffs for his green hair. Though his ‘do matched the Celtics uniforms perfectly, Smart said the dye job was actually in honor of his late mother, who passed away in 2018 after a battle with cancer. “I started to dye [my hair] and she really liked that. She always said that she wanted to see me in green, but obviously she passed away so she never got to see me,” he said. “So, when we started this playoff run, I was like, ‘For her, I’m gonna go ahead and dye it and see what it looks like.’ Everybody loved it, so now it’s kind of here.” Smart looked and played sharp in the postseason, averaging 15.4 points, 5.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 21 games.
