Getting Praise From Pierce
Date: November 19, 1982
While he always wanted to be known as an all-around player, the Legend from French Lick was an unstoppable scoring machine. Larry Bird scored an astounding 21,791 points for Boston, the third-most in franchise history behind only Bob Cousy and Paul Pierce. Due to injuries, Bird played in far fewer games and, as such, his 24.3 points per game is the best in team history for players who played in at least 500 games. Said Pierce after passing Bird’s total points mark: “Larry Bird is probably one of the most important players to ever play for this franchise and to have your name up there with him is a great honor.”
