Dashing into Boston
Going from a Doordash delivery driver to a Boston Celtics player was something out of a storybook for Matt Ryan. The undrafted small forward made the Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League team in 2021 and played for the Grand Rapids Gold of the G League in 2021-22, but he wanted to sign with an NBA team for the regular season. As he waited for an opportunity, Ryan kept up his training and made food deliveries for extra cash. Finally, in March 2022 the Celtics signed him a two-way contract. Ryan appeared in one game with the Celtics and was an energetic hype man on the bench during their playoffs run. He later shined for Boston during the 2022 Summer League, averaging 19 points in two games and nailing a buzzer-beating, game-winner from downtown against the Milwaukee Bucks.
