Changes Needed, Changes Made

Two consecutive early playoff exits provided motivation for Red Auerbach to make big changes ahead of the 1983-84 campaign. When Head Coach Bill Fitch moved on to the Houston Rockets, former Celtics player and eight-time NBA World Champion K.C. Jones was promoted from assistant to the top job. Sensing a need to upgrade the point guard spot, Auerbach also added 1979 NBA Finals MVP and future Hall-of-Famer Dennis Johnson from the Phoenix Suns.
