Behind the Back To Win
Date: March 3, 1950
During his junior year at Holy Cross, Bob Cousy’s coach Buster Sheary urged him to develop a shot with his left hand. In a tie-game against Loyola, Cousy dribbled behind his back and drained a left-handed hook shot to win the game, 59-58. Cousy said after the game, “I didn’t think about doing it. I just did it.” In 1950, the Celtics ended up getting Cousy, an alumnus of the college in Worcester, Massachusetts, just an hour or so away from Boston, from the Chicago Stags dispersal draft after the Stags folded.
