Ard: The Overtime Hero

With 31 seconds left in triple-overtime, Jim Ard sank two free throws to put the Celtics up for good in Game 5 of the 1976 NBA Finals. The team went on to win the NBA World Championship title over the Phoenix Suns, thanks in part to Ard’s timely free throws. “I was fortunate enough to win an NBA title with the greatest franchise in professional basketball. How many people can say that?” Ard later asked.
