On Sacred Ground: The Garden
Over the franchise’s 75-year history, the Celtics have called only two venues permanent homes. That’s because both Gardens have been among the NBA’s premier arenas. Forever immortalized for its place in Boston sports history, the original Boston Garden hosted the Celtics for nearly a half century. (In the early years, the team played several home games at Boston Arena, now named Matthews Arena on the Northeastern University campus.) Along the way, Boston Garden’s characteristics bled into the team’s identity – think about the parquet court, dozens of green and white banners, and the intense home court advantage with fans nearly on the floor. TD Garden has kept those traditions alive since 1995, offering a modern arena to host another generation of success. Discover more about both Gardens and why the Celtics love to be home sweet home.
