Though Red Auerbach didn’t drink coffee himself, Celtics guard Don Chaney agreed to let the head coach help him prepare a cup. Auerbach liked to have some control over what his players consumed. He banned pancakes on gamedays and drinking whiskey in any situation, saying “Let [the players] drink beer!”
